The Path Update - March 20
Welcome back! I hope y'all had a great Spring Break. (If not, feel free to vent.) Here are the updates for our coming attractions:
Yogurt and Yakking: This Saturday, March 25, at 7 PM at Redwood Yogurt, we will be discussing life on the Internet. Does the Internet bring people together, or pull them apart? Is Internet dating the wave of the future, or a harbinger of doom? Is virtual anything really a good thing? Is the Internet's lack of a "headquarters" good or bad? All of these things are important to all people, so let's all get together and discuss it over a frozen yogurt, a shake, or coffee.
Campus ministers meeting: It went really well! We had several campus ministries there: First Covenant - Eureka, First Presbyterian - Eureka, Sunny Brae, Solid Rock, The Vine Club, Church of the Joyful Healer, and The Path. We have decided to post activities onto blogspot.com (talk to Andrew Fouche at First Covenant for more info), picking one activity every month or so from a different campus ministry each time for everyone to get together for so we'll meet one another. Right now, I think we should all go hiking with The Vine Club. As soon as Hannah let's me know more details about it, I'll post something about it as well. Also, all the campus ministries in The Median Campus Ministry Coalition will be putting on a local campus ministry retreat in October at Trinity Life Center - more info to come!
The end of singing! Okay, so that's a little bit melodramatic, but I think we're going to change things up a bit. Instead of singing at 3:15 PM on Tuesdays in the Art Quad, we're just going to sing at the beginning of Bible study on Tuesday nights. Basically, very few people are able to come at lunch, and very few people can come at 3:15, so we're going to do what works. I'm sure y'all will understand. But now, that moves us to the next topic....
Bible study: It's time to get back to the Pentateuch! We are studying hermeneutics, the study of Scripture. We will be looking at the Pentateuch as a unique style of writing, learning how to read law literature distinctly from other Scriptural genres. Remember: Tuesdays at 7:30 PM in Nelson Hall East, Room 115. We will begin with prayer and music, then move into the study - please come!
Lent continues! The Lutheran Church of Arcata will continue having Wednesday night services for the season of Lent. At 6:00 PM, we have FREE SOUP; then at 6:45 PM, we have Lent service for spiritual devotion and renewal (I'll be doing the devotion each evening). Just come by 151 E. 16th Street - we'll be here! And thanks to Megan for helping with service last week.
Preaching this Sunday! I am preaching at church this Sunday, March 26, at the 9:30 AM service. Come if you can - 151 E. 16th Street (two blocks off Union, near Arcata First Baptist). We are also boosting our fellowship groups here at church, for people with the same interests to get together and then have a group activity to share with people who won't go to church.
T-shirts: Everyone who wanted a T-shirt should have gotten one already. Hope you all enjoy them! Just for the record, one shirt is free for all members of The Path, and extra ones are $20 each (they're long-sleeved, after all).
Retreat at Bodega Bay: Assuming everything is still according to plan, we are having a retreat in Bodega Bay with some of the other Lutheran College Fellowship groups in Northern California Friday evening through Sunday morning, April 21-23. We will be playing games, singing songs, learning some, praying some - basically, everything we did in November, but without fighting to get the fire going and with more people. Wanna come? Just tell me. Know of a Lutheran College Fellowship group that wants to come? Just tell me - the more, the merrier.
Habitat for Humanity: Just waiting for a weekend with good weather - probably April 1 or 8. I'll tell you more soon. If we cannot work with Habitat before the end of the school year, do not despair over a lack of physical exertion - we will have a college workday here at church in the coming weeks (trimming branches, painting, etc.).
Bowling: If I don't hear from Newman Center soon, I can make reservations for Friday, April 7, to go bowling without them - just tell me if you're interested when you see me.
Tabling change: I am going to start coming on campus Wednesdays and Thursdays from Noon to 3 PM (not Fridays). Keep an eye out for me!
God's blessings to all y'all!
