The Path Update - April 27
Man, I just couldn't fall asleep last night! I tossed and turned, then got up for a while, then tossed and turned again, got up again, and then finally fell asleep. So today, I am exhausted - please be kind. (And no, you don't need to rewind me.)
Elections: I'm not sure if I posted the results of the officer elections, but here they are, just in case: president - Megan Kramer, vice-president - David Shoenhair, treasurer - Ashton Porter, secretary - Lindsey Mulliner, and historian - Ashlee Zucker. Anyway, be sure to congratulate them and wish them God's blessings at some point. If you need help next year, these are the people who will be here to lead The Path by God's power through its ministry.
Retreat results: Well, the "un-retreat" seemed to go fairly well. Friday night, the grill didn't get hot enough, but we cooked those burgers anyway and had a pretty good time of food, singing, devotion, dodgeball, sharks and minnows, and Bible charades. (Sorry again to Ashlee for not cooking her burger all the way; I don't know how that happened....) There were ten of us for that. Saturday morning, four of us went to visit two of our elderly members who are in the Granada care facility, then to visit two of our elderly members who still live on their own with just a little help. Saturday evening, eight of us had a great time at the Schafers' house, eating barbecue and playing in the hot tub (with a little croquet in there to boot). I think, toward the end, it became apparent how tired we all were; that being said, I had an awesome and relaxing time, and it seemed like everyone else did, too. (If you didn't, let me know, and I'll give you some potato chips. I don't know; I couldn't come up with anything else on that one....)
Last Yogurt and Yakking of the Year! How sad! Our final Yogurt & Yakking of the year will be Saturday, April 29, at 7 PM at Redwood Yogurt. We will be discussing life after death - what is Heaven like? Will your dog be there? Will we have wings? Will we remember anything from our old lives? Is there even a Heaven? All of these things are important to all people, so let's all get together and discuss it over a frozen yogurt (or whatever floats your boat).
Work at the Dunnings': Ashton, David, and I (and Ashlee, if she has time) are going to the Dunnings' house in McKinleyville this Sunday, April 30, after church to work on their backyard, especially with gardening. If you are interested in helping, speak with me Sunday during church or sometime before that; the Dunnings were going to feed us, so they need forewarning about who is coming. (If you plan to eat ahead of time, then no worries.)
Bible study - Ask The Vicar: Well, my second prediction came true, and we are now done with hermeneutics. But does that mean we are done with Bible study for the year? Not quite! We have one more Bible study this Tuesday, May 2, at 7:30 PM in Nelson Hall East, Room 115. Here's the fun part: it's BYOQ - Bring Your Own Questions! That's right: I am answering your questions, no holds barred. Anything you've ever wanted a guy who goes to a seminary to answer about God, the Bible, Christian Doctrine, or whatever you can think of. If I can't answer it, I'll tell you, but I'll also give you the best explanations I know thus far. So feel free to Ask The Vicar and see if you can really stump me. (It is possible to stump me, but it's fun to sound a little cocky.)
GOJA (Girls Overthrowing Jason's Apartment): Hey, are the girls still taking over my apartment Saturday, May 6? I wasn't sure if that was supposed to be Friday night or Saturday night, so I am just guessing that it is Saturday so that everyone can go to church together on Sunday. (I will still be in Sacramento for the District Convention.) If all this goes according to plan, I'll just give my spare key to Ashlee, and y'all can use the apartment as needed.
Dinner at the Duncans': Chrissy Duncan has kindly offered to feed The Path on Sunday, May 7, at their place in Eureka. If David wouldn't mind helping me out in driving everyone out to Eureka, we will probably be having dinner around 6 PM that night. I should be back from Sacramento in time to get everyone. We should be meeting at the bottom of the J at 5:45 PM that evening to drive over there. Hope you can make it!
Letters to servicemen: Whatever your views may be on the current War in Iraq, there are a lot of people in the military who are risking their lives, and they need to be shown love and concern from civilians like us. One of the members of our congregation, Ann Suchanek, has a grandson, Andrew, in one of the Army's Mountain Divisions. I think that our project for the summer should be writing to him to let him know about ourselves and how things are in Humboldt County. If you would like to write to him as a group, you can give me your letter, and we can put together a package for him; if you would like to write individually, his address is:
Suchanek, Andrew
C co 1/87 IN
(1/10 MTN Div)
APO AE 09376
In fact, if everyone is interested, The Path should write to him on a regular basis through next year as well. Anyway, it's just a thought. If you'd like to know whether the soldiers appreciate receiving letters, just ask Ashlee: she writes to two of them.
Obviously, I haven't been able to table on campus since before Easter. Things have been piling up, and I haven't really gotten any new interest on campus lately. (I see many of you, but I see many of you anyway.) But if you want to hang out sometime between now and the end of the school year, just let me know, especially during finals, when you may need time to get away from campus either for studying or for NOT studying. It's sad to see the end of the year approaching. Things may get less stressful, but it correlates to my friends leaving; so I am sad when I should be happy.
Thus far, I know Mike will be around into June, and Ashton and David will be back by mid-July. Jonathan will be around to keep me company through the summer as well. Besides that, I don't know of anyone sticking around. So I will send out a few more updates, and then I'll be passing things on to Megan. Oh, and if anyone needs something to do for the first two weeks of July, our church is going to Blue Slide Camp and needs junior counselors. So if you want to come, let me know.
Sigh! Okay, I better end this before I start rambling... or continue rambling, whichever it is. Later.
